Description:
This practical webinar reviews ways to better engage and support families throughout the IEP process. It explores challenges within IEP teams such as how parents, particularly parents of color, are often marginalized during decision-making processes. Through real case examples, participants will see how the lack of parental input and advocacy can negatively impact educational outcomes for students with disabilities. The presenters emphasize the importance of teams building trust with parents and offer strategies based on research to make meetings more inclusive and effective. Participants will learn how to foster more equitable, collaborative team environments that respect diverse family perspectives. Strategies for welcoming parents, improving communication, and repairing trust when broken are also shared. By the end of this webinar, participants will be equipped with actionable strategies to create more inclusive, respectful, and effective IEP meetings that truly empower families.
