Description:
This presentation provides research-based strategies specifically for school psychologists to prevent burnout and promote well-being. It identifies six major causes of burnout: workload, perceived lack of control, poor relationships, lack of reward or recognition, lack of fairness, and values mismatch, and offers practical strategies for each. Recommendations include ways to streamline evaluations, set boundaries, and foster autonomy. The presenters emphasize the importance of building connections with colleagues and advocating for oneself within the school system. Wellness strategies like movement breaks, gratitude journaling, and digital detoxes are also encouraged. Practical tips such as scheduling email times and saying “I can’t do X but I can do Y” help school psychologists set realistic boundaries. Overall, the session blends research with real-world strategies tailored to the unique challenges faced by school psychologists.
