This webinar provides school psychologists with a comprehensive overview of Tourette Syndrome (TS), tic disorders, and co-occurring conditions, with a focus on how these impact students in school settings. Patty Mendoza, a school psychologist and CBIT practitioner, explains the characteristics of motor and vocal tics, how they develop over time, and how they can affect attention, learning, and behavior in the classroom. Participants will learn how to distinguish between different tic disorders and recognize common co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, and OCD. A strong emphasis is placed on school-based accommodations, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and the role of the school psychologist in evaluations and 504 planning. The presenter also introduces evidence-based interventions, including the gold standard Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), and provides practical tools and resources to help students manage symptoms in school.
